The SUSEN and CICRR research infrastructures constitute the cutting-edge facilities of the Research Centre Řež for research in the fields of energy, materials engineering, and nuclear technologies.
The SUSEN (Sustainable Energy) project is one of the largest energy research projects in the Czech Republic and is operated by the Research Centre Řež, which is part of the ÚJV Group. The project was co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The main areas of research focus are nuclear energy and safety, renewable and sustainable energy sources, materials research, thermohydraulics, and chemical processes.
CICRR (Czech International Centre of Research Reactors) is a research infrastructure, also operated by the Research Centre Řež, which brings together several key facilities for research into nuclear technology, materials, neutron fields, etc.
CICRR includes two existing research reactors: LVR-15 and LR-0. It also incorporates the Czech share in the Jules Horowitz Reactor project – a test reactor for the development of fuels, materials, and neutron experiments. In addition to the reactors, CICRR includes supporting facilities: hot cells (for handling radioactive samples), experimental loops, analytical laboratories, and neutron and γ-sources.
CICRR provides cutting-edge infrastructure for research in the field of nuclear energy – for Generation II, III, IV reactors, as well as for fusion. It enables research into the behaviour of materials in extreme conditions (temperature, radiation), the development of nuclear fuels, the testing of technologies for long-term operation of power plants, and the development of radioisotopes for medicine.
One of the key elements of both infrastructures is S-Allegro– a unique experimental and testing device that allows technological components for high temperature, gas cooled reactors to be tested safely and efficiently without the need for real-life operation. S-Allegro is used for the testing and verification of components and technological solutions in the fields of thermohydraulics and nuclear safety, for simulating nuclear reactor operating conditions, and for collecting data in order to validate computing tools.
Within the framework of Open Access, the S-Allegro infrastructure can be utilised by research organisations and universities, industrial companies from the energy and engineering sectors, and by startups and technology firms focused on innovation.
Our goal is to accelerate the transfer of research results into practice and strengthen the Czech and European position in the field of nuclear and sustainable technologies.
