From 18 to 22 May 2025, the U.S. Department of Energy / National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) and the International Nuclear Safeguards Engagement Program (INSEP), in cooperation with the State Office for Nuclear Safety (SÚJB) and the Research Centre Řež, organized a training course titled “The Middle East and North Africa Regional Workshop on In-Field Verification for Safeguards.”
This course is part of a systematic training programme for safeguards personnel, conducted within the cooperation framework between SÚJB and NNSA.
The workshop was attended by around twenty representatives from national regulatory authorities in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Turkey.
In addition to theoretical lectures, the course included practical exercises simulating IAEA inspector activities in our hot cell laboratories and at the LR-0 reactor, where participants explored the practical aspects of nuclear material accounting in laboratories and the implementation of in-field safeguards verifications at nuclear facilities.
Feedback on the course was overwhelmingly positive. Participants praised both the organization and the relevance of the course to their professional responsibilities.
Participation in this course is regarded as a prestigious opportunity, reflecting the quality of the Czech Republic’s regulatory framework in the nuclear field, as well as the excellence of our nuclear technology research. We are proud to have shared our nuclear know-how at this international level.
